Marc O’ Polo stands for high-class, contemporary Premium Modern Casual Wear. Marc O’Polo now conducts its strategic operations from its headquarters in Stephanskirchen to the south of Munich. From there, it supplies around 2,200 national and international retail and franchise partners as well as its own stores. The Marc O’Polo range is sold in more than 30 countries. The Story of O’

Back in the summer of 1967, two Swedes and one American living in Stockholm decided to set up a rather special kind of clothing company. Rolf Lind, Göte Huss and Jerry O. Sheets were three adventurous, widely travelled and free-spirited entrepreneurs, who all shared an interest in fabrics and quality. At that time, the world of fashion was turning increasingly to the synthetic fibres that were then becoming popular. The three founders, however, wanted to stand firm and rely on natural materials.

All they needed was the right name for the company. They hit upon the name of famous Venetian explorer, Marco Polo. However, they didn’t want to reuse his name directly – it needed to be adapted in a humorous and catchy way. As it happened, Jerry O. Sheets often saw his name written incorrectly, as “O’Sheets”, as people assumed it was an Irish name. The three founders took advantage of this mistake by combining the incorrect name with that of the explorer. And that’s how the name Marc O’Polo came into being.

Right from the outset, the O’ in the brand name served as a symbol of individuality, freedom and independence. Now, more than 50 years later, those values – along with the company’s passion for high-quality materials – remain integral to the Marc O’Polo brand.
